To find the sum of fractions with same denominators
A fraction is a numerical value that represents the parts of the whole.
A fraction consists of two parts, namely the numerator and the denominator. The upper part of the fraction is called the numerator and the lower part of the fraction is called the denominator. For example, 4/7 is a fraction. Here, 4 is the numerator and 7 is the denominator.
Fractions with the same denominators are called like fractions. Thus, 1/15, 2/15, 3/15, 8/15 are all like fractions.
Addition of like fractions means the addition of fractions with the same denominator values.
Follow the below steps to add the like fractions.
Step 1: Keep the denominator values as it is and add the numerator value's.
Step 2: If required, simplify the fraction.
Example 1: Add 6/7 to 3/7.
Solution:
Given: (6/7) + (3/7) Here, the denominator values are the same, so keep the value as it is.
Now, add the numerator values.
(6/7) + (3/7) = (6+3)/7
(6/7) + (3/7) = 9/7
Answer = 9/7.
